With Nowhere Near, filmmaker Miko Revereza conveys a personal history of immigration, disillusionment, and the universal, yet infinitely varied, search for “home” and a place of belonging. The filmmaker of Filipino descent recounts his departure from the US as an undocumented immigrant, to Oaxaca in Mexico, via Manila, his parents’ hometown. In these places, he explores the vastly complex sense of belonging, examines his family relationships, and plays with the medium, all the while turning an introspective gaze on his creative journey and his relationship with his art over the years. Nowhere Near is an experimental depiction of the migrant experience and a record of lives ignored by US bureaucracy. (AJL)
