Every Thursday, students from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria gather at their school's film club, which doubles as a public agora when heated exchanges follow the screenings. As this observational documentary unfolds, these youths, in turn, become the protagonists of an activist film in which the issues that influence how they are perceived and how they perceive themselves are debated. Intersectionality, feminism, inequality, decolonization, gender identities, police brutality - all these subjects are tackled by this new generation, whose ability to take a stand and express itself is striking. Alain Kassanda's film enables these students to defy certain stereotypes and reclaim the "coconut heads" insult that has long been leveled at them. (MAS)
