Or de vie
Rasmané, also known as Bolo, is a teenage gold miner on the Bantara site in Burkina Faso. At 16 years old, his days are taken up with cooking and the back-breaking task of mining deep inside the galleries, more than 100 metres underground. Driven by his desire to find gold and secure a better future for himself, Bolo gradually loses his innocence and illusions through exposure to the brutality and ever-present danger of this life. Boubacar Sangaré immerses his camera into the overcrowded site and, without judgment, captures moments of the life shared by the gold hunters; young men who off camera, seem to have become the pawns of a voracious industry as damaging to the body as it is to nature.
