Mambar Pierrette
Rosine Mbakam (Delphine’s Prayers, RIDM 2021) brings her documentary expertise to the service of a direct fiction film set in the heart of Douala. With non-professional casting, including members of the director’s own family, the film paints a captivating portrait of local seamstress Mambar Pierrette. A vibrant and charismatic woman as gentle as she is determined, she constantly juggles resources to provide for her school-aged son. Imbued with tender sensitivity, the film speaks not only to the complex sociopolitical situation in Cameroon, but also the resilience and dignity of its people. What emerges is the crucial importance of community when faced with life’s challenges. (AAM)
