In her third feature, the director of FREM (RIDM 2019) and White on White (RIDM 2020) offers a fascinating documentary essay in which she continues to explore future times, or those in which we already live: the age of loneliness. Through an insightful interweaving of analogue and digital images, along with a conversation between an AI and the filmmaker’s own post-human avatar, Notes from Eremocene delves into a dystopian future in which digital technologies have spiralled out of control while biodiversity founders. With a sensitive touch and generous curiosity, this film provides an experimental aesthetic and narrative, embodying a cerebral yet playful reflection crafted with rare intelligence. (HSB)
