The history of the Krahô people is marked by violence that has left open wounds in the memory of its new generations. The stories of resistance are as powerful as those of the carnage this people has survived. In a relationship extending beyond this feature, the filmmakers collaborate with an Indigenous community in Brazil. The result is an ethnofictional account of the community’s sovereignty that spans almost a century. Filmed in magnificent 16 mm over the course of 15 months, the film emanates the collective spirit, communicating a deep respect and attention to the rhythm of community life and the oral tradition. The individuals depicted, some of whom were also involved in the co-writing of the script, enter into the project with total ease, lending this film an authenticity rarely seen in cinema. (AAM)
