A moving landscape, at times artistically (de)constructed through various processes, barrels across the screen as if through a train window. A voiceover reflects on identity and belonging, forming a counterpoint to the poem “Pioneer! O Pioneer!” by Walt Whitman. Published in 1865, the poem is an homage to westward colonial expansion in the United States of America. This juxtaposition conveys the tension of a colonial America. (HSB)
