Sky Hopinka: Redefining potential territories

Fainting Spells Sky Hopinka

Images of landscapes fluctuate between realism and the bright colours of lush, multi-layered artistic effects, while handwritten words scroll across the screen. We are exposed to a myth imagined for Xawiska, a medicinal plant also known as Indian Pipe Plant or monotropa uniflora, used by the Ho-Chunk to recover from a fainting spell. This experimental short film is a densely wrought sensory experience akin to meditation. (HSB)

This film is presented as part of the retrospective Sky Hopinka : Redefining Potential Territories.
