Since 1967, the Golan Heights in Syria has been under Israeli occupation. A military border divides families and friends who must shout to each other in the hope their loved ones will hear. Exiled in Europe, filmmaker Alhasan Yousef attempts to communicate his anguish around the fate of his lost homeland, his desire to reconnect, and his feeling of powerlessness. Faced with a tormenting sense of isolation, he embarks on an exploration of his surroundings and their sensory potential. The result conveys his unease and highlights the key role of sound in our relationship with separation and distance. (AJL)
