Accompanied by a slideshow of publicity stills from the last 40 years, James N. Kienitz Wilkins’ frenetic narration considers cinephilia with an oddly refreshing dose of skepticism. These images are part of an industry whose mechanics have long been enmeshed with many kinds of abuse. So, are we complicit by association? Still Film’s premise is that of a non-diegetic trial in which all voices belong to Wilkins, who talks over himself in an almost schizophrenic way. The work examines our relationship to film and, more importantly, to the concept of truth itself while playfully psychoanalyzing the subconscious of popular Hollywood conspiracies. (AJL)
