Koromousso - Grande soeur
Despite female genital mutilation being illegal in Canada and elsewhere, it is still difficult to access regenerative surgery. Yet, more than 200 million women around the world have been subject to genital mutilation and, at the current rate, over 60 million more will be in the next twelve years. In this documentary, which brings together interviews with experts, historical facts, and unsettling statistics, a group of Canadian women of African origin share their own stories of female circumcision and advocate for their rights. Koromousso – Grande sœur seeks to raise awareness in the face of the taboos around female genital mutilation and women’s sexuality, underscoring that this practice is far from being an exclusively cultural issue.
