For over a decade, an apartment on Parthenais Street has been home to many members of Montreal’s queer community. Some remained for extended periods, while others passed through briefly, but it was consistently a place associated with providing a safe place for many. Therefore, when the building is bought by new owners, its residents enter a grieving process for the space and what it stood for over time. With a title that says it all, Éviction records the residents’ final days while looking for a new home in the midst of a housing crisis. Exploring the expansive yet personal world of its vibrant protagonists, this film is both a heartfelt tribute to the margins of society and a passionate call to action for tenant protection. (AJL)
