The Montreal International Documentary Festival is delighted to announce the Beat Dox Sessions return during this year’s festival, from November 10 to 20. In parallel with the Beat Dox section of music-themed documentaries, the Beat Dox Sessions, featuring local artists, will take place at RIDM Headquarters. The Beat Dox Sessions have been programmed by Melanie Turner this year.
The opening party will take place on November 10 at 10 p.m. The festival goers will enjoy She-Devils’ haunting, distorted take on 60’s inspired pop and hip-hop artists Hua Li and Strange Froots. The party will end with DJ sets of Jef Ellise Barbara, Eejungmi and Clearspot.
Blue Skies Turns Black parties will take place on November 11 and 16. Psychedelic post-punk rhythms of Hand Cream, the angular future-pop of PHERN, and the groovy synth pop of GG Love and tunes from DJ boysname will play on November 11, from 9 p.m. The ethereal soundscapes of Loon, the pounding rhythmic improvisations of Yoo Doo Right, the lush melodies of Best Fern and the grungey shoegaze of Penny Diving will play November 16, from 9.30 p.m.
The Heavy Trip party will take place November 12. The cream of Montreal’s underground genre will play from 9 p.m.: transcending Un Blonde, bedroom pop aficionado Brazilian Money, and icy minimalists Blanka. The party will end with a DJ set of H.J. (Menace Collective).
Monday, November 14, famous Cuban Hat Pitch returns as part of Doc Circuit Montreal documentary marketplace. Festival goers will attend the presentation of the five finalist projects and the selection of the winner. DJ Rhythm and Hues will be spinning after the Cuban Hat Pitch.
On November 15 the famous RIDM karaoke returns! The Marilis’ Karaoke Extravaganza will host the party while a special DJ guest will play.
The Beat Dox Sessions on November 17 and 18 will be presented in collaboration with Pop Montreal and M pour Montréal. Pop Montreal presents a night of great music for all the nerdy documentary types featuring Lungbutter, The Submissives, Heathers and DJ Sivani on November 17, from 9 p.m. Meanwhile M pour Montréal presents a night full of sonic treats featuring Anemone, Paul Jacobs and DJ crème de menthe!
Lastly, the closing party will take place on Saturday, November 19 at 9 p.m. A dance-a-thon with Lebanese/Montreal party boys Wake Island, the effortlessly melodic Exit Someone, DJ Noah Bick and B2B DJs antoine93 and pascale project will play to close this 19th edition of the RIDM.
The Beat Dox Sessions are an initiative launched with the financial support of FACTOR.
