Montreal, Thursday, October 19, 2023 - Forum RIDM, presented by Netflix, is pleased to announce the selection of the project from the Bavarian delegation that will take part in Doc Lab Montréal, a documentary talent incubator, from November 17 to 22, 2023. Forum RIDM is honoured to welcome director Annelie Boros and producer Lea Neu (kalekone film), who will present their feature-length project Statefree.
This collaboration, carried out in partnership with DOK.fest München’s professional market DOK.forum, aims to foster the professional and creative development of this Bavarian duo, and to stimulate cross-cultural exchanges with accredited market professionals. In addition to their participation in Doc Lab Montréal, these two professionals will also take part in various activities held during the 19th edition of Forum RIDM.
Project synopsis:
While a passport provides the right to circulate freely around the world, many individuals are denied this privilege, growing up without a sense of belonging and deprived of their fundamental rights. Statefree follows the lives of three stateless individuals, Christiana, Sirazul, and Neha, in their struggle to attain this right to freedom. Through an exploration of the origins of nation-states, this documentary shares their findings on why some people are excluded from this basic right and how, through legal means, alternative systems to citizenship are possible.
This initiative, part of the Quebec-Bavière cooperation program, is made possible thanks to financial support from the Government of Quebec, the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications and the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie.
