DokuFest (International Documentary and Short Film Festival held each year in Prizren, Kosovo) has turned its attention toward Canada this year in order to shine a spotlight on contemporary documentary cinema from Québec. The program called "Focus Canada: Spotlight" Québec offers a compelling overview of the province’s films by combining voices from different generations of creators, spanning from award-winning filmmakers alongside emerging talents, while also highlighting the contributions of Indigenous filmmakers.
The five feature films presented at the festival are : A Skin So Soft by Denis Côté, Damascus Dream by Émilie Serri, Don't Worry, the Doors Will Open by Oksana Karpovych, Prayer for a Lost Mitten by Jean-François Lesage and This House by Miryam Charles, which had an exclusive premiere on the prestigious Criterion Channel earlier this year.
Each film is preceded by a short film from Wapikoni Mobile : Manitushiss by Réal Junior Leblanc, The Future Innu by Stéphane Nepton, The Weight by Craig Commanda, Katatjatuuk Kangirsumi by Eva Kaukai & Manon Chamberland and Where the River Widens by Zach Greenleaf.
The audience of DokuFest will have the chance to discover the rich and multifaceted Québec cinema from August 4 to 12, 2023.
