In western Canada, roaring electric saws and voracious machines tear through the serenity and majesty of the forests, parts of which have stood for hundreds if not thousands of years. An eternity is shattered in seconds simply to meet the needs of an ever-greedier humanity. Jean-Philippe Marquis turns his camera on the individuals participating, in whatever measure, in the exploitation or safeguarding of these spaces. With intimacy and grace, through its keen gaze and sonic immersion, the film builds a remarkable mosaic of subtle and lucid portraits and reflections from people who have profound knowledge of, and sometimes a visceral connection with, these endangered giants.
