Kenopsia, a neologism awaiting formalization, refers to the strange atmosphere of an abandoned place that once bustled with life. Bearing this important name, a figure wanders through a deserted building she is keeping watch over. The unfamiliar site, in a state of semi-dereliction, is slowly revealed through skilled and meticulous framing and editing. With this latest work, filmmaker Denis Côté once more occupies the intersection between fiction, essay, and experimental film. The result is a multifaceted reflection not only on solitude and a kind of nostalgia but also on how we see the world, time, other people and ourselves. The film will be accompanied by a masterclass by the filmmaker, inviting a deep exploration of the potential of film that defies categorization and labels. (HSB)
The November 21st screening will be followed by a free Potochkine concert, the artists behind the films original soundtrack.
Denis Côté will participate in a free Masterclass on November 23rd at 5PM.
