DOC CIRCUIT MONTREAL (DCM)
opens its call for applicants for the 5th annual TALENT LAB
Montreal, Wednesday, September 12, 2018 – Doc Circuit Montreal, scheduled for November 10 to 14 this year, is pleased to open its call for applicants for the fifth annual Talent Lab. Applicants can submit their proposals from September 12 to October 10, 2018. This edition will invite more than 20 emerging filmmakers to participate in the documentary lab alongside artists and experts from the RIDM and DCM programs.
The Talent Lab will take place from November 10 to 12. The first two days will be reserved for workshops and lectures for Talent Lab participants, who will then join the rest of DCM on November 12. As a result, the emerging artists who attend the Talent Lab will have the opportunity to meet and network with established documentary industry professionals from around the world.
NEW NFB GRANT
DCM welcomes the NFB as a new Talent Lab partner this year. The NFB French Program’s Documentary Studio will support up-and-coming filmmakers with a $5,000 grant for the development of a French-language project by a Quebec-based filmmaker participating in Talent Lab 2018.
CANAL D GRANT
For the fourth year in a row, Canal D will offer a $10,000 grant (in the form of a development contract) to the makers of one of the Canadian French-language projects in Talent Lab 2018.
The NFB and Canal D grants will both be presented to their winners on November 12 during the opening reception for the 14th annual Doc Circuit Montreal.
MENTORSHIP
A customized mentorship program will be offered this year to seven filmmakers selected among Talent Lab participants. The mentors come from a variety of professional backgrounds, and are from Canada and other countries.

PETER WINTONICK TRAVEL GRANT
Thanks to generous contributions from the Canadian documentary community, several Talent Lab participants from outside Quebec will receive support from the Peter Wintonick Travel Grant.
DCM wishes to thank Bunbury Films, Cinema Politica, Colonelle films, EyeSteelFilm, Intuitive Picture, Invisible Hand Productions, John Walker Productions, Kensington Communications, Parabola Films.
In 2017, ten emerging creators from British-Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario benefitted from this travel bursary.
ELIGIBILITY FOR TALENT LAB 2018
Emerging and mid-career filmmakers with projects in development or production are invited to apply before October 10, 2018. All documentary projects are welcome, including shorts, series, features, and interactive or experimental works.
DCM’s Talent Lab initiative is made possible by the support of Telefilm Canada, Canal D and the NFB.
Doc Circuit Montreal also wishes to remind Canadian emerging filmmakers that they have until September 16 to submit their documentary projects for the First Pitch activity.
